Fair Street Recycling

Fair Street Recycling (FSR) in Chico is a State-certified recycling center that pays its customers redemption value on a variety of beverage containers and also accepts donations of paper, cardboard, and non-beverage plastic containers. FSR Trainees sort and process recycled materials, serve customers, and must be able to represent Work Training Center in a positive manner. Trainees will learn to use the can and glass crushers and the paper baler. FSR Trainees must have the ability to bend, reach, occasionally lift 30 to 50 pounds, and stand/walk around for a full 7-hour shift (with breaks). Trainees must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather in appropriate and safe clothing and safety gear. Trainees receive wages based on individual productivity at the prevailing wage regulated by the Dept. of Labor.

Our prime location employs 38 individuals, 24 of whom are workforce-supported clients, process 290 tons of aluminum, 820 tons of glass, 190 tons of plastic and 360 tons of paper annually. They are unique to all other county-wide recycling programs in one service they offer: drive-through. Fair prices are paid on the redemption value of all appropriate material, and e-waste recycling is offered free of charge.
